I have officially made it to Paris! My long and crazy journey got both myself and my cat, Remy, here safe and sound! Yes, I brought my cat to Paris! Getting him through customs was surprisingly easy. The customs agent looked at me and said “quelle? un chat?”, stamped my passport and off we went. After spending several days attempting to overcome my jet lag ( I am still not quite there), I had my biggest day so far. Tuesday was the day I had lined up apartment showings. This was something I was most nervous about as I had spent the past 4 months or so researching places online. The amount of tabs I have open on my computer makes me look like a crazy person. The apartment market in Paris is difficult for even the locals to understand. Furnished, unfurnished, guarantors, pay stubs, French taxes, bank accounts, cell phone number, all of which I had none. I knew this was going to be the most difficult aspect of my move, so I braced myself and tried to manage my expectations.
There was no need. I had been working with several rental agencies, but Vingt was by far the best. My agent was very nice and super prompt with any question I might have. I fell in love with the very first apartment he showed me. If all goes well, I should have the lease tomorrow! Stay tuned on the AMAZING location I will get to call my new home!
With that out of the way, I spent my evening wandering the streets of Paris. I have included some of the sights I saw along the way. Something about walking the streets of Paris gives me a sense of belonging I have never felt before. I have had a string of good luck with customs, Remy, housing, bank accounts, kind people, and now an apartment! I can’t believe I get to call this magnificent city, chez moi.
